Three Desi Things is a podcast where three desis — one Indian and two Indian-Americans — joke and banter with each other while discovering little-known facts and interesting stories about the food, culture, and people of India and South Asia.
Who are we?
Saurabh Datar is an award-winning journalist, developer, and a history buff. He has worked with the Boston Globe, Atlanta Journal-Constitution and Mid-day, Mumbai. He has been obsessed with facts and telling stories since middle school.
Geetika Kalloo is an epidemiologist and is looking forward to a time when people no longer know what an epidemiologist means. She completed her PhD from Brown University in 2019 and is a huge trivia and Bollywood nerd. Her biggest regret is that she never got to be on Jeopardy! with Alex Trebek.
Veda Shastri is an independent documentary filmmaker, video producer and immersive journalist. She is a contributing producer for Immersive Experiences at National Geographic.
She was earlier a staff video journalist and producer for The New York Times in New York. Veda has produced over 100 virtual reality stories and short documentaries for the New York Times, from the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, inside a Black Hawk in Puerto Rico, the lava fields of Iceland, and on Mauna Loa Volcano in Hawaii.
For her work at the NYTimes, she has won an Online Journalism Award and an Edward R. Murrow Award.
